Heart-wrenching story (no details, anything would be a spoiler!) that bridges the gap between modern and traditional cultures. Gorgeous cinematography and fabulous acting. There are a few times when the story moves a bit slow for my taste, but that gives the film space for allowing the strong emotions to be expressed fully.

This movie is as gorgeous to look at as it is impossible to look away from. The characters will make you care about them, make you wonder what you would do in their shoes. Their dilemmas are wrenching, and their choices will leave you speechless. Do. not. miss.

Cinematography was complex, excellent --lush and drab in deliberate contrast; appropriately dark. The brilliance of African fabrics and costumes in Brooklyn, and in small dark rooms. The movie was long, but that may have been deliberate to deliver the suffering of the characters in time and over time and because of time. Definitely not for anyone looking for suspense. More the satisfaction of watching a sunset at an appointed hour. the conflict was not between the culture of these people and that of America but between their culture and their private relationship. The rendering of their pain was powerful--not for anyone looking for an "up" movie. The ambiguity of the conclusion had emotional integrity.
